Deception Technology Strengthens OT Cybersecurity Defences
OMICRON Cyber Security has released significant updates to its StationGuard portfolio, introducing StationGuard Sensor 4.10 and StationGuard GridOps 2.17. These latest enhancements provide greater visibility into digital substations, expanded vulnerability intelligence, and improved monitoring capabilities to help operators strengthen the cybersecurity of critical power system infrastructure.
Designed specifically for operational technology (OT) environments, StationGuard combines intrusion detection, threat intelligence, asset visibility, and vulnerability management to help organisations identify cyber threats, assess operational risks, and maintain secure power system operations.
A key highlight of the latest release is the introduction of advanced functional monitoring capabilities within StationGuard Sensor 4.10. New features include enhanced Sampled Values Monitoring, Precision Time Protocol (PTP) synchronisation monitoring, advanced PTP analytics, and configurable transmission time monitoring. These capabilities provide earlier detection of communication anomalies, synchronisation issues, and emerging faults before they impact substation operations.
The release also includes several enhancements for improved usability and threat detection, including expanded ICCP/TASE.2 deep packet inspection, built-in runbooks for IEC 61850 MMS, GOOSE and IEC-104 events, highly accurate hardware timestamping, configurable time accuracy monitoring, and new GOOSE diagnostic alerts.
On the vulnerability management side, StationGuard GridOps 2.17 significantly expands its vulnerability intelligence database with 181 new security advisories, 227 updated advisories, and 572 additional vulnerability entries. The platform now provides visibility into more than 16,500 vulnerabilities, helping security teams identify and prioritise the risks most relevant to their operational environments.
Together, these updates enhance OT cybersecurity by providing deeper operational visibility, improved threat detection, and more effective vulnerability management, helping utilities and industrial operators maintain secure and resilient power system operations.
