Objectives
After completion of this course, each learner will have a good comprehensive understanding of power transformers, current transformers and voltage transformers. Each participant will learn how to perform test procedures and to run and update pre-prepared test templates on the various primary plant installations using the primary testing solution from OMICRON.
Theoretical session
The participants will be familiarised with the important aspects of different types of tests performed on various types of transformers and electrical installations. Participants will also be educated on the different IEC standards governing tests on transformers.
Practical session
The participants will have to apply the gained knowledge during the practical session. During these sessions, a power transformer, a current transformer, and a voltage transformer will be tested. Several different tasks will have to be performed on each transformer.
Contents
- Basics: Important aspects of primary plant testing and safety in an electrical substation. CPC 100 and CP TD1/12/15 hardware overview.
- Basic theory on power transformers, current transformers and voltage transformers. Different types of tests performed on the different transformers, international standards regulating current transformers and testing on power transformers.
- CPC 100: Setting up and execution of different tests on power and instrument transformers.
- CPC 100 Quick Mode: Injecting voltage and current into a test object. i.e. ratio tests
- Current Transformer Testing: Ratio, burden, excitation curve, winding resistance, polarity check and ratio by using the voltage method. Tan delta testing.
- Voltage Transformer Testing: Ratio, burden, polarity check and tests on non- conventional VTs.
- Power Transformer Testing: Transformer ratio test and vector group test, winding resistance test, on-load tap changer test, tan delta and transformer windings test.
- CPC Explorer and Editor Software: Communication between the CPC 100 and PC. Upload and download of test results and test templates.
- CPC Excel File Loader: Create customized test reports and perform specific post-processing of test results.
Pre-requisites for the Training Course
- Basic knowledge and understanding of primary plant assets/installations (CTs, VTs and power transformers).
- Working knowledge of how to operate Windows programs (e.g. Word, Excel) and the Windows operating system.
