Objectives
After completion of this course each learner will have an in-depth understanding of how to test the various types of relays from first principles, i.e. simulating a distance, directional overcurrent, transformer and line differential faults by injecting currents and voltages using a CMC and the OMICRON Test Universe software. Also to be explained are the manufacturer-specific operating characteristics and algorithms used by relays common in the local market.
Each learner will learn how to develop his own automated test template for a multi-function relay using Test Universe and its supporting the features in the OMICRON Control Center.
Theory session
The course will familiarise learners with the theory of protective relays. Also to be demonstrated are the testing of protection relays from first principals. Each learner will perform several tasks using the test software in the offline mode.
Practical session
Practical test stations for distance, differential and overcurrent protection relays are set up, learners are divided into groups, which rotate through the different test stations performing several tasks at each station, where learners will have to apply the gained knowledge.
